A hands-on competition that poses a question about a region's ‘underused places’
A hands-on competition that sends out, nationwide, the potential and challenges held by “underused places” in a region — framed as a “question” — and gathers the people and ideas that resonate with it. ASIBA supports it as a LABEL. What sets it apart from a conventional architecture competition is that a proposal doesn't end with a drawing. Bringing in interested experts from outside the region as judges, the project builds dialogue with the local area through town walks and workshops, and the chosen ideas get implemented in the actual town. By “planting the seed of a question,” passionate proposers gather from across the country; that passion sparks a sense of ownership in the local community, and the circle of people involved keeps expanding. Starting from a “question,” it draws in both people and place, letting the seed of an idea sprout into a real, physical landscape.
